Art Submissions!

Hey guys, these were some of the submissions I did for Spectrum and Expose 9. I didn't get into neither of them, but the experience and rush of putting something together and submitting was worth the challenge. Maybe next year I hop will turn out better, but until then, I'll just keep pushing these babies out! Dont forget to check out the Sharkboxer pages I did with Paper Dog Studios! Finally Im able to post these in full color. I hope you all have a happy and blessed Easter. I just made some last minute tweaks on these this past weekend with Joe and Ford to make it in for Heroes Con later this month. Joe Karg wrote the story, Adam Ford did the layouts, I did the initial pencils/inks and finished colors, and Carlos Villagra did the final inks. Its been a long time since I've posted anything. I have been super busy with work, freelance, and a few surprises that I'll reveal soon. I am super excited about the projects I've got on my plate and I can not wait to share some of my experiences, my achievements, and my disappointments. I thank God every day for the journey I am embarking on, and I appreciate all the love and support from family, friends, and from every day strangers.

I recently just attended the Anime World Atlanta con this past weekend and had a blast. Me and my good buddy Eric, had an incredible time and I hope there's more to come like it in the future. I managed to pull a couple of illustrations together for the my booth and I can not thank enough all the support from just random people, who really appreciated the work I did and their generous comments. Quick shout out to Diana Chen, who recommended I should attend the event. I admit I not the biggest enthusiast of anime, but the ones I do love, have definitely had an influence in my work and my life. From the fast-paced and mythology of Naruto, to the detailed subtlety of human emotion and epic scale of the beauty of nature in the films of Miyazaki; the works of Japanese animation has shaped the way we perceive art from other cultures. Anime has definitely been catalyst, at least for me, to broaden my horizons of how imagination can create something different and new. Their are so many stories that have been untold and so many new techniques to be discovered in our little artsy fartsy community.

Anyways, before I get too long winded, I wanted to share these pieces of Goku from Dragonball and Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro. Two characters that have shaped my childhood and even influenced the way I see the world through my art. I hope you guys enjoy and be on the look out for more things to come soon. I promise. Man i cant believe Im 25 already! Its been a year and the count down to my birthday just flew by. So its been awhile. Been a little busy and a little lazy lately. Holidays you know. Anyways I just started a new webcomic blog with my friends Joe, and Ford today!!! Together we are Ménage Á Draw!!! Get it? There's three of us and we draw! Hahahahaha..........moving on; the concept of the webcomic is just to create stories, brush up our skills, and just have fun. The three of us will switch duties between writing/layout/pencils, inks, and coloring/lettering. Every Sunday we will put up a new comic finished or not, and maybe some other goodies in between. The first story is an introduction, with Joe taking writing and penciling duties, Ford doing inks, and me doing colors and lettering. I hope you guys enjoy! Some of you may have heard of the crazy weather thats been going down in my town of Atlanta lately. Flooded homes and theme parks, closed streets. I admit i felt kind of selfish a bit when i was upset because I was trying to move during the whole ordeal, but in my defense I didnt know how serious it was till I looked on the news. Man Ive been real busy the last couple of months but your man Biv is back baby! Been doing a little freelance on the side and things at work started to pick up a little bit so sorry for the delay in posts.

So in latest news, Ive been working with my "boi" Joe Karg on these comic pages for the last 2 weeks. I have to say, putting these pages together has been one of the most rewarding things Ive done in my life! The story is cool and interesting and Karg provided some killer layouts and pencils for this project. Let's hope it gets picked up so you guys can see more. This is a random drawing I did of the main character during a meeting we had the other day about some of the pages.

Well my birthday was yesterday, but I had a little free time with the celebrating and stuff to do a quick post. Ta da! Here are some of the first few sketches from Boozer Doodle vs Dr Sketchys, from the other night. The first few drawings were really rough because I haven't been life drawing like I should lately and I was trying out pastels for the first time in a while. I was trying to work on my color palette, but what looked good in dim light looked really out there once the sun rose. Some I ended up liking better in the light and others I couldn't stand to look at. Lol. Oh well hope in the next session the lighting will be a little brighter. Hope you guys enjoy. Happy New Years guys! Been busy at work getting back into the swing of things. Had a nice little break with the family for the holidays and been in my little hole ever since I got back into ATL. Anyways, with this new year I wanted to add a little more of my personal tastes into my blog just so you can learn a little more about me. "Current Beats" is just me trying not to be lame I guess. Lol. I wanted to share something for all you hip hop fans out there that miss the good 'ol days when hip hop was about the flow, the beats, the hooks, the punchlines, the energy, and most importantly the fun and love of the art. Now when you listen to the radio its a bunch of noise; no life and no soul. That's why I'm recomending this rare gem that totally blew me away from the first listen. This is one of those albums that grow on you and is appreciated more with each spin. Real 'ol school lyrics and synethic drums that reminds you of the old quest, but still fresh enough to be a fresh new experience. I admit when A Tribe Called Quest came out I was just starting kindergarden, but I latter learned to appreciate the contribution they have attributed to the hip hop culture. Anyways, this is a longer that usual post but I just wanted everyone to take notice to this album. I hope everyone had a good holiday, and hope everyone is ready for this new year of 2009! These are storyboards for a music video I did for my girlfriend Brandi. It was for a class project and the story revolves around a pregnant teen who goes through different situations and finally seeks to find help through the church. The story was a cool idea but there was a little confusion with some of the details which is why there are continuity problems. You live and you learn I guess. It was a cool exercise and I hope to work on more like this sometime in the future. I was a little worried at first, but she got an A on the project and her teacher loved it. Funny how things work sometimes in life. Im glad I could help her on it and I hope she knows how much I appreciate her for giving me the opportunity. Maybe I should tell her then? Lol Gotta go. Something I was playing with after work. I found some new brushes for photoshop that Ive been messing around with. Getting some really cool effects and it's freeing up my hand a lot with the different textures you can get. I love doing faces sometimes. So iconic like a poster for a movie or something. You really connect more with the character that way. The next one I'm going to do a full body just to bring it all together. Done moving now but now I have to get my car towed! Crazy. Hey guys Ive been in the lab working my behind off on this new stuff. I eventually want to turn it into something more, but for right now just getting a feel for the characters right now. Im redoing the Peter Pan story in China and changing some stuff around with the story. So far its been a crazy experience. Ive been doing a lot of sketching lately and kept redesigning everything to make it different from anything else. I will probably post a few more things from the story this work and after that post once a week. Ill put some more little doodles inbetween then to fill it up more. Man I've so busy with all this stuff lately. Getting ready for San Diego, work has been picking up a lot lately, and a slew of projects on the side I'm slowing getting together. In the middle of all this I did a little drawing of Yoda last night while I was going through my old animation reel from school. I really liked the idea of using Yoda, but the concept didn't quite come together as well as I hoped. So to make it up to myself I redrew one of the keys I had made but with a lot more rendering. A true inovator for his time and contributed to the foundation of animation that we aspire by today. I am very proud to be apart of his legacy and I hope that I can put my mark in a field where many have tried to go above and beyond just normal film making. Words can't express the what Ollie and his peers have accomplished, but I hope that we all can take pride and encouragement in their following. Take care.

Hey guys. Its Friday and I'm waiting for traffic to die down at work. If you didn't know, today is the 40th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's death. I think we as Americans take for granted what he has accomplished and the movement he stood for. I was listening to the radio this morning and they played a clip from the one of his speeches. Man, what a moving piece it was and made me think a lot about what it must have been like back then. It moved me so much that I wanted to do a little piece to commemorate it. Haven't been at it on the painting in a minute. I was a little frustated yesterday with one of the other paintings I had started, so I went to town on the last illustration board in the garage. This is a new painting i plan on doing in oil. I just started this today while i have a lil time off from work for labor day. Im starting to post different phases of each of my art now for achiving purposes and to just see my progress. Its supposed to be a beast looking character with a glowing light shinning behind him. I didnt want to put too much detail in it for right being that this will be my first real oil painting in like 12 yrs! I think im going to add something in the top left corner next to his head to complete the composition a lil more. Hope you enjoy!

Batman+Clayface

This is a batman piece that I did a few weeks ago. Me and Joe took the same reference pic and interpreted it into our own image of batman. We decided to use clayface as the subject if you know what the creature coming off of his hand is. I liked how it turned out. Played with the colors a lil bit in photoshop.

update: These are somemore designs for A Gathering. There was no name for it at the time and the story was orginally meant to be an animation piece but is now reworked for comic book form. The lion is totally redesigned and looks a lot more menacing and better drawn in my opinion. These were from like a year ago, and my skills have dramatically increased as i continue to become a better artist. I'll post some more sketches of the new lion design and give more info about the project.

Hello to everyone who reads this ( which isnt much. lol). I have just gotten back from a week long trip to Boston for SIGGRAPH 2006. I had lots of fun, and was a great experience. Talked to lots of people in the industry and going was inspiring to me. The website is finally finished (somewhat lol) and will update soon. Scanning just takes so long to do. messing around with some markers after looking at steven silver's sketchbook, and wanted to do some marker renders after a long time of not drawing anything. school takes a lot of my time. for the most part they turned out pretty good. the warrior didn't quite turn out like i wanted it to.
